Best (Safest) pike path to/from Ruby Hospitlal 1 Year, 11 Months ago
Hi all!

I'm new to this group and pretty much new to Morgantown (3 months!). I just bought a bike and would like to start biking to work. Not only will it save me $$$, but I think I'd get there faster than sitting in traffic towards the Mileground!

So, here's the question... What is the safest route for me to take from my place (Basically at Mario's Fishbowl on Richwood Ave) to Ruby Hospital?

As fast as it would be, I don't think 705 is very bike friendly. I did see someone yesterday whizzing by, but there is a gravel shoulder on 705 at the Mileground, and on the other roads there is no shoulder!

I could go the other way by the downtown University and then up the long hill and then over on Patterson (easier home than to work!)... or maybe I could mix it up and take the PRT from downtown...

Any thoughts?

Dr Jolt,
Sorry it took so long to reply. The forum is new and there aren't many users yet, but I can share my experience. Most of the commuters I know would ride down the walking path (next to Mario's) to the Decker's Creek Trail at Valley Crossing then to the Mon River Trail at Hazel-ruby Park. Then up the walking trail at the arboretum to the coliseum and follow Patteson to the hospital.

Alternatively you could get off the trail at Seneca Center and take Mon Blvd up to Patteson (it's a little quicker, but there's traffic).

If you have any questions you can call me at 276-0213.
